The IAU catalogue's account
The Arabic lunar mansion "Al Shaula" ("the sting") refers to the pair Lambda and Upsilon Sco (Al Sufi), the two stars that have been called "the sting of the Scorpion" even in MUL.APIN (I ii 31-32) but with different proper names there. "Shaula" appeared more in early modern literature for the pair of stinger stars after Hyde's (1665) translation of Ulugh Beg, and specifically for Lambda Sco after Piazzi's (1814) Palermo Catalog.

Layer of tradition and ancient-layer signal are not the dictionary authors' judgement but a keyword reading of the entry's wording. “No simple cue found” means exactly that — the parser found none — not that the name is late.
The fields on this card were read off an OCR layer and are not checked against the printed page. The page number is given so the claim can be verified in your own copy.
