The constellation of the Triangle depicts the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Three sides form one indivisible figure: the three are distinct, but the triangle is one. Its position is especially important: the Triangle lies directly next to the constellation of Aries — the Lamb, the image of Jesus Christ, sacrificed for the sin of the world. Thus the heavenly picture joins the mystery of the Triune God with the Lamb: through the Son, the Father is revealed to man, and the Holy Spirit is given.
Full interpretation
Verifiable historical, etymological and topographical statements are accompanied by sources. The theological conclusions are the project’s interpretation according to its published methodology.
The Triangle is one of the simplest and at the same time deepest figures of the starry sky. Unlike images of animals, people, or objects, here we have the geometrical form itself: three sides joined into one whole.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
In the biblical picture, it naturally becomes an image of the Trinity of God.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
The Father — God. The Son — God. The Holy Spirit — God.
Yet God is not three Gods, but one God.
So also in the triangle: the three sides cannot be mixed with each other; each occupies its own place, but they form one indivisible figure. If one side is removed, the triangle itself no longer exists.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
Especially expressive is the position of the Triangle. Next to it is Aries — the Lamb. In the overall heavenly picture, the Lamb represents Jesus Christ — the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
Therefore two images stand side by side:
The Triangle — the Triune God. The Lamb — the Son of God, offered as a sacrifice.
It is through Christ that the fullness of God is revealed to man. The Son came from the Father, revealed the Father to men, and after His death and resurrection sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
Jesus expressed this directly before His ascension, commanding His disciples to baptize 'in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit'. Note: not 'in the names', but in one name, after which the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are named.
This structure is even clearer in Paul's words: through Christ, in one Spirit, we have access to the Father.
Thus a very definite path is set forth:
through the Son → in the Holy Spirit → to the Father.
Therefore the proximity of the Triangle to the Lamb is especially important. God reveals Himself to man through the Son. The invisible God becomes knowable through the incarnate Christ, and through the sacrifice of the Lamb man receives reconciliation with the Father and the gift of the Holy Spirit.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
The most ancient history of this region also has another layer: part of the stars in this area were associated with the Mesopotamian image of the Plough. But in the overall biblical composition, the most expressive element is precisely the shape of the constellation itself and its position next to the Lamb.[Hunger & Pingree · MUL.APIN][Rogers · Origins][Вавилонские звёздные каталоги][Stellarium · MUL.APIN][Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
Three sides — one whole.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — one God.
And beside them is the Lamb, through whom the Triune God reveals Himself to man and restores man to communion with Himself.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
