The Scales show God's measure and righteous order, which fallen man no longer meets. Nearby is Scorpius—the image of sin and rebellion that broke this order. Moreover, the main stars of the Scales were anciently also called the claws of Scorpius. Therefore the Scales and Scorpius together show: God's measure exists, but sin has disrupted the order established by God.

The constellation of the Scales is extremely ancient. In Mesopotamia it was called ZI.BA.AN.NA / Zibānītu—"the Scales."[Hunger & Pingree · MUL.APIN][Rogers · Origins][Вавилонские звёздные каталоги][Stellarium · MUL.APIN][Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
The Scales are an image of measure, justice, and established order.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
In the Bible, measure belongs to God:
"Honest scales and balance are from the Lord."
But when man is placed on God's Scales, a problem is found:[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
"You have been weighed on the scales and found very light."
It is not God's measure that is broken—man himself and the order created by God are broken.
And the next figure explains the reason.
Next to the Scales is Scorpius—the image of sin and angelic rebellion.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
The connection between them is historical: the two main stars of the Scales are called:[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
Zubenelgenubi — Southern Claw. Zubeneschamali — Northern Claw.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
That is, the ancients perceived these stars simultaneously as Scales and as claws of Scorpius.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
In our picture this becomes a very clear image:
Scales — God's order. Scorpius — sin that has invaded that order.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
This is exactly why man no longer corresponds to God's measure:
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
From this, the previous scene with the Lion and the Virgin becomes understandable.
Lion — God. Virgin — Israel, through whom the promised Seed comes. Scales — the reason why man needs a Savior. Scorpius — the cause of the violation: sin.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
Man is not able to restore what was broken by himself. Therefore Christ comes and pays the price that man cannot pay:
"The Son of Man came ... to give His life as a ransom for many."
Thus the Scales reveal the problem of salvation:[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]
God's measure exists. Man does not correspond to it. The cause is sin. Therefore a Redeemer is needed.
