Summary

The constellation of the Hare depicts the Nephilim — the earthly fruit of the Watchers' intrusion. It lies directly under Orion-Kesil, the bound fallen angels of the second wave. In ancient Babylonia, the region was DAR.LUGAL — 'Royal Rooster', associated with the legendary hero and king Lugalbanda, while ancient Arabs called the four main stars of this region the 'Throne of Orion'. This fits well with Genesis 6: the Watchers came down to men, and beneath them on earth appeared giants — 'mighty men who were of old, men of renown'.

Full interpretation

Verifiable historical, etymological and topographical statements are accompanied by sources. The theological conclusions are the project’s interpretation according to its published methodology.

The constellation lies directly under Orion's feet. This position is fundamentally important. Orion is the biblical Kesil, bound by God: 'Can you bind the chains of Kesil?' In the heavenly picture, he represents the Watchers — powerful but rebellious spirits against God, whom God humbled and bound in chains.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]

What then lies directly beneath the Watchers, on earth?

Genesis gives a direct answer: after their intrusion, the Nephilim appear.

The 'sons of God' descend to the daughters of men, and then Scripture speaks of giants and 'mighty men who were of old, men of renown'. Therefore the figure under Orion naturally continues the story of Kesil himself: above — the Watchers, below — the result of their intrusion into the human world.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]

The most ancient Mesopotamian image of this region reinforces precisely this thought. In MUL.APIN, the constellation under Orion is called DAR.LUGAL — Rooster, and the text directly says: 'the constellation that stands below the True Shepherd of Anu — the Rooster'. The word is associated with the image of a 'royal bird', and the constellation itself in Mesopotamian tradition was associated with Lugalbanda — a legendary hero and king of Uruk. This remarkably corresponds to the biblical definition of the Watchers' offspring: 'mighty men who were of old, men of renown'.[Hunger & Pingree · MUL.APIN][Rogers · Origins][Вавилонские звёздные каталоги][Stellarium · MUL.APIN][Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]

The later ancient Arabic map preserved another important detail. The four main stars of the Hare — α, β, γ, and δ — were called ʿArsh al-Jawzāʾ — 'Throne of Orion' and Kursī al-Jawzāʾ — 'seat/footstool of Orion'. They lie directly between his legs.[Kunitzsch & Smart][IAU · имена звёзд]

This shows the earthly domain of Kesil's authority. The Watchers left their heavenly position and interfered in the human world; here their offspring and their earthly dominion arose. The Nephilim became the visible result of the invisible angelic rebellion.

Even the later image of the Hare preserves an interesting detail — the extraordinary fertility of this animal was one of the main reasons for its ancient Greek symbolism. This is a secondary layer, but it again returns to the theme of multiplication and offspring.

Therefore this part of the sky continues the story of Orion:

Kesil — the bound Watchers. They intrude into the human world. Beneath them appear the Nephilim — giants, heroes, and rulers of antiquity.

And the whole scene near Taurus becomes even clearer: the Watchers attack Taurus from the front, Perseus from behind, and beneath the Watchers lies their earthly fruit — the Nephilim.
